We are a family-oriented and organic-oriented agricultural company located a few kilometers from Orvieto on the western side of Umbria near the small village of Morrano.
The natural context in which it is located extends across a green hilly area, an ideal environment for the cultivation of olive trees thanks to the characteristics of the soil and its altitude and exposure. The company also has a large plot dedicated to the cultivation of fruit plants (citrus fruits in particular).
A territory of tradition
Colle di Gemma farm is located in a generous and hospitable area. In Umbria, a region synonymous with good cuisine and traditional flavors since the Etruscan-Roman era. In fact, since the advent of the Etruscan civilization there has been evidence of the production of wine and oil in this region and in the Orvieto area in particular. Even today in Orvieto it is possible to touch and see evidence of olive oil production in past years. An example is the Santa Chiara mill in the city’s undergrounds an ancient oil mill where olives were pressed from Etruscan times until the 17th century.
This is because oil has always been a precious commodity, as its use was not only linked to cooking but it was also used as a basic element for body and hair care, it was therefore, and still is, a component essential in cosmetics and beauty products.
A quality production
We grow our olive trees with great dedication and passion using native cultivars typical of our territory. This is because we believe in the potential of a fertile area where the land has ideal characteristics and the right mix of exposure to the sun and mild climate to make the olive tree grow and thrive. In fact, the cultivation area has hilly and undulating terrain where there is no stagnation of water and humidity, enemies of the olive tree. It is a clayey-limestone soil with an abundant presence of stones where the plants grow with the right dosage of water (guaranteed by a drip system fed by water from the wells) and natural fertilization which is “entrusted” to dwarf sheep of ouessants who graze freely, naturally fertilizing the soil and also keeping it clean from the herbs they feed on.
